Strange Days
This movie stars Ralph Fiennes and Angela Bassett and
is set around New Year's Eve 1999. This movie was
written by James Cameron and directed by Kathryn
Bigelow. Its hard to describe the plot, but it can
best be described as a futuristic crime drama.
Futuristic only that it is set a few years in the
future.
Ralph Fiennes character is a former cop that sells "clips" for a new kind of virtual reality machine. Its basically like a CD and lets you experience the recordings of another person's thoughts, just like you are looking out of their eyes. The movie revolves around the murder of a rap star named Jericho One. Ralph Fiennes becomes involved when he recieves a clip containing the murder, which seems to indicate a police conspiracy. It also seems to implicate his ex-girlfriend's, Juliette Lewis, new boyfriend. At the same time he is trying to avoid a psychopathic stalker who's trying to kill him. I know it sounds confusing.
My favorite features of the movie are the directing by
Kathryn Bigelow, who also directed Point Break; which
was a horrible movie but well directed I always
thought. I also liked Ralph Fiennes as a hapless,
hustling putz. And Angela Bassett is hot with her braids, pants-suit and ass-kicking.
In a strange twist my favorite part is probably the
closing credits. It includes the opening credits,
which didn't appear at the beginning of the movie. It
also has a version of Deep Forest & Peter Gabriel's "While the Earth
Sleeps", which is exceptional.
