Mississippi Masala
This is an interesting story of interracial romance
between Denzel Washington and Sarita Choudhury.
Sarita plays Mina, an Indian girl whose family moves
to Mississippi from Uganda and opens up a motel.
One reason I like this movie is because it reminds me
of my friend, Minal (Mee-na), an Indian girl whose
family moves to Georgia from Zambia and opens up a
motel.
But also this is an interesting tale of an interracial
relationship that doesn't include a white person. But what it does show is that
there are still the same problems, especially in Mississippi.
Great acting all around and very genuine writing by
Sooni Taraporevala. Also, this movie was well directed by Mira Nair who would go on to write and direct Kama Sutra, also starring Sarita Choudhury.
