Juice
This is a movie that tells the story of 4 friends
growing up in Harlem that get involved in robbery and
murder.
Juice stars Tupac Shakur and Omar Epps in a movie
co-written and directed by Ernest Dickerson. This was
the debut movie for all three and all three are
exceptional in their roles.
At the center of the story is Q, played by Epps, who aspires to
be a DJ. He hangs out with his friends as they go
thru their everyday lives and at night he goes home to
practice his DJ'ing skills.
Things start to go bad when the craziest of the 4,
Shakur playing Bishop, decides they need to get their
hands on a gun to increase their street credibility.
Once they have the gun, Bishop convinces the others
that they have to use it. He convinces the others to
take part in an armed robbery of a local store.
When the robbery goes worse than they ever imagined,
things start to unravel. Bishop in particular starts
to feel invincible with his gun at his side. He
slowly declines into a man obsessed with the seductive
powers of the gun. The others soon realize what a
terrible mistake they made but that its to late to
change what's passed.
This movie has solid acting by Epps and Shakur in
their debut roles. Shakur in particular, is mesmerizing, showing his star-power
even at 21 years old.. Its also a well made movie by
Ernest Dickerson. He is probably best known for being
a cinematographer on many of Spike Lee's movies. Look
for small roles by Queen Latifah and Samuel Jackson.
