Miller's Crossing

This is a movie of rival gangs during the Prohibition Era. Gabriel Byrne plays right-hand man to a crime boss, played by Albert Finney.

The rival leader comes to Finney to have a double-crossing bookie, John Turturro, snuffed out. But the bookie is the brother of his lover. But Finney's lover is also sleeping with Byrne.

As you can tell it ends up being a very messy situation. All this leads to one of the more memorable scenes in recent cinema, a scene in the woods between Turturro and Byrne.

I can't say anymore, but suffice it to say you get love, betrayal and good ol' fashioned American violence.

One of the more appealing aspects of this movie is the overall look of the film. The Coen Brothers went to great lengths to give the film an authentic 1920's look, unlike some movies that look good but just don't come off as genuine.
