Sorcerer
Unlike what the title suggests, this is not a Wes
Craven movie.
It is a remake of "Le Salaire de la peur", which is
based on the book "Wages of Fear".
This movie is the story of 4 men, who happen to come
together in a complete shithole in South America.
They are basically there for different reasons, but all are trying to run away from trouble in their
lives.
It stars Roy Scheider as a mob stooge who holds up the
wrong parish and has to leave the country to save his
life. There's also a French embezzler, a Palestinian terrorist and a Mexican assassin.
In order to make money to leave their current hole for
a better life, they agree to drive trucks filled with
dynamite across the rain forest. It sounds easy, but
you've got to see the film to appreciate what they go
thru.
This movie was directed by William Freidkin, who you
might remember as the director of Rules of Engagement.
But before that he actually produced films of real
quality. He had done The Exorcist and The French
Connection before taking on this film.
Unfortunately, this movie turned into his own personal
Waterworld as the film took years to make and went way
over budget. And like Waterworld, it was panned
before it even came out, thus never got a fair shake.
Unlike Waterworld, this is a truly stunning film.
As a side note, all the actors trained for weeks in
order to operate the trucks realistically. You will
be amazed at the amount of danger the actors were put
in, in order to maintain realism.
