The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th
Dimension
This movie came out during the hey-day of corny space
pictures like Ice Pirates, Metalstorm and Cherry 2000.
Unfortunately it seemed to get lumped with them in
the eyes of most consumers.
This movie stars Peter Weller as Buckaroo Banzai, a rockstar-brain
surgeon-samurai-adventurer. John
Lithgow and Christopher Lloyd star as aliens.
Banzai's crew, the Hong Kong Cavaliers, includes Jeff
Goldblum, Lewis Smith and Ellen Barkin.
The basic idea of the story is that Buckaroo Banzai
develops a trans-dimensional device that sets Lithgow
and Lloyd free from their 8th dimensional prison. It
sounds convoluted and hokey, but believe me this movie
is pretty funny.
There is also a set of good aliens that resemble
rastafarians. If you haven't seen this, I highly
recommend you rent it. Of course, you'll probably be
able to catch it on cable in the next couple of weeks
as well.
