Barbarians at the Gate
This was a Made-for-HBO movie about the RJR Nabisco
takeover.
It stars James Garner as the CEO of RJR Nabisco, F
Ross Johnson. This movie is a true story of Johnson's
attempt to BUY RJR Nabisco!
It presents a pretty extensive view of the craziness
that surrounded business acquisitions in the late 80's.
When Johnson tries to buy out RJR a huge bidding war
breaks out.
The film costars Joanna Cassidy, Jonathan Pryce as the
ruthless corporate raider and Fred Thompson as the
chairman of American Express.
This is a very entertaining movie; well-paced, funny
and quite exciting at the end. James Garner and
Jonathan Pryce are especially convincing in their
roles.
