The World in His Arms

This is not the title of an upcoming James Bond movie, but a movie starring Gregory Peck as a sea captain in the mid-19th century Pacific.

While in San Francisco, he meets a Russian countess disguised as a prostitute in order to hide out from her arranged fiancee.

Before they can become wed, however, the fiancee kidnaps the countess. Peck and his rival of the seas, played by Anthony Quinn, decide to rescue her. They race to Alaska with the winner getting the other's ship and crew to rescue the countess.

Again, I can't tell you why I like this movie, only that I do.

I doubt you will be able to find this is a video store. If you do, you're a much better man than me, Charlie Brown. You can occasionally see this movie on one of the classic movie channels on cable, though.
